During the Arab rule, the capital of Gozo was named "Rabat", but later in 1887, it was changed to honor Queen Victoria's jubilee.

Today, the official name is "Victoria", but the islanders still refer to the capital as "Rabat."

→ Who Are The Gozitans? ←

Residents of Gozo, although the island is part of the Maltese islands, refer to themselves as "Gozitans" and have their own Gozitan dialect.

Similarly to the inhabitants of Sicily, who don't identify themselves as Italians but as Sicilians.

gozo

The Gozitans are extremely kind, friendly, and always ready to help others!

People on the island live very closely-knit and happily.

They don't travel much to other countries, and if they decide to go on a trip or vacation,

they usually rent a beachside apartment on the island and enjoy their time together with family and friends.

gozo

The Gozitans live modestly, yet there are two things in which they confidently invest:

health and education.
